Winemaking Notes
At Domaine du Vieux Bourg, winemaking is guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention. Dominique Piron believes in letting nature shape the wines, focusing on showcasing the distinct qualities of each appellation. The Beaujolais Villages is crafted with careful attention to preserving the fresh fruit character and elegant structure that defines quality Gamay. Traditional winemaking techniques are employed to create wines that are expressive, balanced and true to the heritage of Beaujolais, resulting in a wine with vibrant cherry fruit, silky tannins and refreshing acidity.
Vintage Conditions
The 2023 vintage in Beaujolais provided excellent conditions for Gamay production. The growing season benefited from balanced weather patterns that allowed the grapes to develop concentrated fruit flavours whilst retaining natural acidity. Côte du Py, the heart of the Morgon appellation, is the benchmark for all Beaujolais terroirs. This small hill, with volcanic origins and ancient blue stone rocks, boasts the oldest soils in the region. The terroir's influence extends throughout Beaujolais Villages, where the combination of granite soils and ideal climate creates wines with strong structure, rich flavours and the characteristic crunchy cherry fruit that makes Beaujolais Gamay so distinctive and food-friendly.
