Dominique Piron, born in 1950 in Morgon, represents the 14th generation of his family since Etienne Bailly, born in 1590 in Morgon. Some of the family vineyards have been in possession since that time, notably the "Terrains Rouges," "Roche Noire," and "Montpelain" vineyards.
At Domaine du Vieux Bourg, winemaking is guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention as seen in the Vieux Bourg Beaujolais Village. Dominique believes in letting nature shape the wines, focusing on showcasing the distinct qualities of each appellation. The estate’s Morgon Cinq Terres is crafted from five different hamlets, each contributing unique characteristics to the wine, resulting in a powerful, spicy profile with notes of cherry and morello. Every wine at Domaine du Vieux Bourg reflects its terroir, with the goal of creating wines that are expressive, balanced, and true to the heritage of Beaujolais.
Côte du Py is the heart of the Morgon appellation and the benchmark for all Beaujolais terroirs. This small hill, with volcanic origins and ancient blue stone rocks, boasts the oldest soils in the region. Known for producing long-lived wines with strong structure and rich, fleshy flavors, Côte du Py offers powerful and spicy wines with enticing black cherry aromas, making it renowned for centuries as the best terroir in the village.
