With a deep red colour and violet hue, the 2018 Pyrenees Estate Shiraz from Taltarni emanates aromas of red berries and light spices with earthy tones. This aroma is balanced perfectly with a medium-bodied wine that is equally rich in flavour. The addition of Mourvèdre into the blend enhances the spice and the drive along the backbone of the palate. The dark forest fruits and subtle oak flavours complement the persistent dusty tannins and chocolate notes on the finish.

Winery & Vintage Info

Taltarni’s estate-grown reds are renowned as some of Australia’s longest lived and most cellar-worthy.

A reasonably dry winter constricted the vines to a lower yield year, the grapes produced were concentrated in flavour and of the highest quality.
Premium estate shiraz parcels were harvested at site-specific times across four weeks, allowing for true varietal and regional expression. Fermented in small batches, these fruit parcels were kept separate throughout the winery process to maximise each parcel’s uniqueness.

The partial whole bunch ferments were submerged by heading down and by using a combination of pump overs and delestage. This added to the richness and complexity of the wine. The wine underwent natural fermentation in the beginning during cold maceration and then co-inoculation of malolactic fermentation to complete in a combination of new 15% and seasoned French oak barriques.
