Punt Road Pinot Noir 2025 is dark, powerful, and complex — entirely estate grown on the Napoleone Vineyard in Coldstream, wild fermented, and matured in French oak. Cherries, cola, earth, and spice on the nose; fine tannins and a long, composed finish on the palate. A cool-climate Yarra Valley Pinot Noir that captures the depth of the warm 2025 season without sacrificing structure or perfume. Cellar 3–5 years.

Appearance

Deep ruby with the clarity and luminosity of a cool-climate Yarra Valley Pinot Noir from estate-grown fruit — the colour of a wild-fermented, French oak-matured wine that draws from mature MV6 blocks and the complexity of multiple clones on a single historic vineyard.

Aroma

Cherries, cola, earth, and spice — dark, powerful, and complex, with the lift and perfume that smaller portions of Able, 777, and 115 clones add to the MV6 foundation. The expressive, layered bouquet of an entirely estate-grown Pinot Noir from a warm season that delivered depth without sacrificing structure.

Palate

Wild fermented and matured in French oak — capturing the depth of the warm 2025 season while retaining structure and perfume, with fine tannins and a long, composed finish. 10% whole bunch adds complexity and spice; 20% new French oak (Dargaud & Jaegle and Taransaud) provides the framework without overwhelming the fruit.

Pairs With

Roast duck with a sweet–sharp glaze and charred onions, grilled mushrooms with garlic butter, herbs and lemon, duck confit, and pinot-friendly dishes of every kind — the fine tannins, cherry fruit, and earthy complexity make Punt Road Pinot Noir a deeply satisfying and natural partner for the finest food at the table.

Winemaking Notes

100% estate-grown Pinot Noir from the Napoleone Vineyard, Coldstream — MV6 (primary), with smaller portions of Able, 777, and 115 clones adding lift and complexity. Oldest vines planted 1988. 10% whole bunch. Wild fermented. Matured in 20% new French oak (Dargaud & Jaegle and Taransaud). Certified through Sustainable Winegrowing Australia. Cellaring potential: 3–5 years.

Vintage Conditions

The 2025 season in the Yarra Valley was warm — delivering depth, concentration, and dark fruit intensity in the Pinot Noir while the cool-climate character of Coldstream retained the structure, perfume, and fine tannins that define the Punt Road estate style. A vintage that rewarded the patience of wild fermentation and the precision of careful clone selection.

Producer History

The Napoleone Vineyard in Coldstream has one of the most remarkable histories in Australian viticulture. In 1860, Swiss immigrant and pioneering vigneron Hubert de Castella took vine cuttings from the Airlie Bank vineyard on Melbourne’s Punt Road to plant 200 acres in Coldstream — wines that quickly gained acclaim in Australia and Europe, and land that would later become the original St Hubert’s vineyard. In 1926, Joseph Napoleone migrated from Abruzzo, Italy, to Australia. In 1948, the reunited Napoleone family purchased land in the Yarra Valley, beginning as orchardists with Red Rich Fruits. In 1978, they acquired the Coldstream property — the original St Hubert’s site — and replanted it with vines in 1987. Today, the third and fourth generations of the Napoleone family own and farm the 58-hectare estate, certified through Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, with a philosophy of producing wines that reflect the rich history of the estate and create a legacy for the next generations. Grape growing on this land since 1860. The Napoleone family’s since 1978. Punt Road’s forever.
