Winemaking Notes

Pizzini Nonna Gisella Sangiovese 2024 is crafted using a combination of cold maceration and hot fermentation of outstanding winemaking distinction. Cold maceration sees the grapes crushed into stainless steel at around 8°C — inhibiting the onset of fermentation while keeping skins and juice in contact for an extended period, allowing wild ferment characteristics to slowly develop before Brunello yeast is added, resulting in fresh, fruity and boiled lolly aromas of genuine complexity. Hot fermentation at close to 30°C adds chalky texture to the tannins and contributes to the long length and savoury characters typical of Pizzini Sangiovese. Aged in a mixture of large format oak barrels, barriques and stainless steel tanks to maintain vibrancy and freshness. 13.9% alc. 750ml.

Vintage Conditions

The 2024 vintage in King Valley commenced much like the previous three years — wet and cold — before conditions changed dramatically, with consistent rain giving way to warm, dry weather of outstanding growing season distinction. Morning temperatures around 15°C by 9am and daily peaks of 30°C by 3pm created perfect vintage conditions for producing wines of exceptional quality, both for immediate enjoyment and long-term ageing. The result is a Pizzini Nonna Gisella Sangiovese of outstanding King Valley character — fresh cherry, blood plums, spiced plums, chocolate and dried Italian herbs with balanced acidity, fine tannins and a savoury finish of enduring Pizzini distinction.
