Pikes Traditionale Riesling 2020 (Clare Valley)

The 2020 vintage marks the 36th release of the Pikes Traditionale Riesling, and sits comfortably amongst some of our best vintages. Extremely concentrated, this wine will stand the test of time. Drink now or cellar for 10+ years. Perfectly matched with freshly shucked South Australian oysters.

We experienced a very dry winter, while the spring rain gave us just enough moisture. Apart from one heatwave in December, the growing season was very cool. Post veraison, ripening conditions were perfect, with February being one of the coolest on record. Long cool sunny days allowed for excellent flavour development and high natural acid retention. The 2020 vintage is a subregional blend, comprising of predominantly Estate Grown fruit from Polish Hill River and selected growers fruit from Sevenhill, Clare, Leasingham and Mintaro. Our winemaking approach is designed to capture the flavour of each individual site with minimal winemaking influence. Only the best free run juice is included in the final blend of the “Traditionale”.
