The Mitchelton flagship estate range cleverly combines tradition with progression and refinement and captures the heart and soul of what they do, and have done at Mitchelton for more than 50 years.

The 2022 Mitchelton Estate Single Vineyard Roussanne offers a powerful and rich palate of yellow peach, melon and nashi pear juxtaposed against beeswax and nougat with a pithy, textural mouthfeel. The nose is an inviting blend of fresh apricot, yellow peach and chamomile, followed by citrus blossom and subtle gunflint notes.

Winery & Vintage Info

The origins of Mitchelton date back to first vine plantings in 1969 and has since become a well-known destination in Central Victoria, symbolised by the iconic Ashton Tower standing proud at 55 metres. Their rich history set the foundations, while their dedication to the pursuit of wine excellence inspires us to push the boundaries with our regional winemaking.

The first crop of vines were planted at Mitchelton in 1969, and the winery named after the historic explorer Major Thomas Mitchell.

The plans for the winery, cellar door and tower were drawn by Robin Boyd CBE, one of the country’s most renowned architects. Following Boyd’s death in 1971, the equally admired Australian architect Ted Ashton completed the design.

After Mitchelton opened in 1974, the 55-metre tower soon became a recognised icon of the Victorian winemaking landscape.

More recently, Mitchelton continued its partnership with leading architects by engaging the practice of Hecker Guthrie to design a new cellar door and 54-room hotel. The impressive result borrows from the existing architecture’s modern lines, rustic textures and sculptural forms, making it a natural fit in both the built and natural environment.
