As with every vintage this wine is highly sought after and this 2021 vintage release continues that, with a true cool climate wine, elegant and certainly received high praise from avid wine aficionados. 2019 Vintage - "Here’s the sort of soundbite that retailers love. The Crudo range, quite possibly, offers the most sophisticated and high quality drinking available at its price point in this country. Or something like that. Violets over blackberry and boysenberry, cracked pepper, grilled meat and spice. It’s silky, but dense and meaty, weight of fruit almost compressed by shale and granite, or something fanciful like that. Rich in tannin, subtle in acidity, no oak influence to speak of, sweetness and perfume of fruit, rolled in dried herb and black olive savouries. Long and slick with rich silty tannin to close. Almost like Shiraz meets Aglianico? Italianate and natty feel. Best Crudo Shiraz to date, no question."

All Luke Lambert wines are handpicked and of single-vineyard origin. They are wildly perfumed with moderate alcohol, fresh acidities, powdery tannins, and limited oak influence. These are wines made as if the industrial revolution (in wine) was a figment of our collective imagination.
Luke’s methodology includes wild ferments without the aid of temperature control, hand plunging, long macerations (with plenty of whole-bunch for the Syrahs), basket-pressing, gravity rather than pumping, old oak, and no fining or filtration. Lambert’s belief that ..."the best wines have always been made by feel and are always sourced from unique and interesting vineyards that have natural balance and grow grapes full of character..." comes through strongly in the remarkable complexity and balance of these wines.

Luke Lambert's Crudo Shiraz 2021 vintage was made with 60% whole bunch. Wild ferment, and wild malo. Matured in 5000 litre French oak Foudre with no fining or filtration and minimal sulphur at bottling.
"The 2021 vintage in the Yarra Valley was an excellent one. A mild/cool growing season with regular rain events at the right time meant a long, slow growing season a bit like 2012, 2015 and 2017. Harvest started later than normal and we're very happy with the resultant wines. Lots of elegance and perfume but still with subtle, ripe fruit power." - Luke Lambert
Lambert is obviously inspired by his experience making wine in Piemonte and Australia yet firmly believes that "...the shape of a wine should be governed by what soil you’re on, the aspect, the amount of sunshine and rain." In other words, the personality of a wine will be dictated by its “place”. Lambert’s source vineyards (in poor, rocky and elevated pockets of the Yarra Valley) are therefore managed in order to bring out their unique geographic signature in the final wines.
