Louis Pommery England Brut NV is the realisation of a vision that began in Champagne and crossed the channel to Hampshire — where the same vein of chalk that runs beneath the Champagne region of France continues beneath the English countryside. Pale straw yellow with perfectly formed, continuously rising bubbles; freshness and finesse on the nose with yellow citrus aromas giving way to white fruit, predominantly pear, followed by vine-ripened peach; a beautiful balance and rich harmony on the palate, with a well-controlled dosage that leaves no impression of sweetness. A very forthright and bold wine, and a remarkable expression of what English sparkling wine can be in the hands of one of Champagne’s most storied Maisons.

Appearance

Lovely and delicate pale straw yellow — the bubbles and effervescence forming perfectly as they continuously rise, giving the impression of a wine full of life and the precision that Pommery’s revolutionary yeast encapsulation method delivers.

Aroma

Freshness and finesse — yellow citrus aromas on the first nose, with white fruit, predominantly pear, followed by vine-ripened peach on the second. The aromatic purity and clarity that Thierry Gasco’s revolutionary yeast encapsulation method produces: completely free of sediment, with an exceptional aromatic range.

Palate

Beautiful balance and rich harmony — the citrus, pear, and peach aromatics following through and heightening on the palate, with a straight, clean finish free of harshness and a well-controlled dosage that leaves no impression of a sugary taste. Forthright, bold, and immediately satisfying.

Pairs With

Fresh oysters, smoked salmon, soft cheeses, light seafood, or simply as the perfect aperitif — the fine bubbles, citrus freshness, and elegant dosage make Louis Pommery England Brut NV a versatile and refined partner for any occasion that calls for something exceptional.

Winemaking Notes

Crafted from Hampshire fruit grown on the same chalk vein that runs beneath the Champagne region of France — the geological foundation that gives Louis Pommery England its distinct identity and the freshness, finesse, and mineral precision that define the wine. Cellar master Thierry Gasco developed a revolutionary new method of yeast encapsulation that produces the clearest, purest wine ever made by this technique — completely free of sediment, with an exceptional aromatic and gustative range that sets Louis Pommery England apart from conventional méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines.

Producer History

Maison Pommery was founded in Reims in the mid-19th century by Alexandre Louis Pommery, a former wool trader who recognised the potential of the Champagne wine industry and built one of its most celebrated houses. Pommery is credited with the invention of Brut Champagne — a revolution in style that transformed the way the world drinks sparkling wine. By 1857, Pommery was already shipping to New York; warehouses in Rotterdam, Antwerp, London, and Liverpool followed, and in 1904 a monumental 75,000-litre vat created by Émile Gallé was presented at the World’s Fair in St Louis, Missouri.

In 2004, Paul-François Vranken resurrected the quest to source wine from across the globe — identifying the land that produces the very best quality grapes for developing a sparkling wine with a distinct identity. California came first, then England: the wager that Pommery could develop an excellent sparkling wine in Hampshire, where the same chalk that defines Champagne runs beneath the English countryside. That wager has been won. Louis Pommery England Brut NV is the proof.
