Levantine Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2022 is one of the most beguilingly complex and savoury expressions of Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley — delicate yet layered, with aromas of red cherry and blood plum evolving into savoury notes of nutmeg and shiitake mushroom. Wild strawberry, rhubarb, and subtle spices on the palate, supported by fine-grained, seamlessly integrated tannins and a fine line of natural acidity. The palate backloads with confidence, pushing through the full length to a sweeping, lingering finish. Vegan friendly. 96 points — Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Deep, vibrant ruby — the concentrated, elegant colour of a Yarra Valley Estate Pinot Noir from four hand-picked blocks, with the clarity and depth that 20 days of careful selection and small open vat fermentation deliver.

Aroma

Delicate yet complex — red cherry and blood plum evolving into savoury notes of nutmeg and shiitake mushroom, with the stalk-influenced complexity and umami depth that make this wine so beguiling and distinctive.

Palate

Wild strawberry, rhubarb, and subtle spices — with fine-grained, seamlessly integrated tannins and a fine line of natural acidity. The palate backloads with an accumulation of tannin and fruit, pushing confidently through to a sweeping, lingering finish.

Pairs With

Roast quail, duck confit, mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, and Middle Eastern spiced lamb. A Pinot Noir of genuine savoury complexity that rewards the finest table.

Finish

Sweeping and lingering — red cherry, wild strawberry, nutmeg, and velvety tannin fading with the metronomic balance and Middle Eastern spice that define Levantine Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2022.

Reviews

“Such beauty here, an assemblage of 17 individual parcels from the Estate vineyard. Cranberry and bright ripe red fruit, field mushroom, game too, roast quail, truffle, super indulgent. It sports a delicious umami broth backbone – the type that anchors and seasons. Metronomic balance with not a hair out of place and the palate bursting with fruit. Ripe red cherry, all parts dewy and plush. Middle Eastern spices keep pace through the velvety finish. Superbly done.”

Winemaking Notes

Hand-picked across four Estate blocks (3 × MV6, 1 × D2V5 clones) over 20 days. All fruit hand-sorted and de-stemmed or crushed to small open vats. Stalks added back to select parcels for additional complexity. A mix of natural fermentation and inoculated yeasts. Cuvaison length ranged from 1 to 3 weeks on skins. Hand-plunged or pumped-over a maximum of once per day for gentle extraction and integration of tannin. An assemblage of 17 individual parcels from the Estate vineyard. Vegan friendly.
