Winemaking Notes
Kim Crawford produces one of Marlborough's benchmark Sauvignon Blancs, with the secret to success being serious attention to detail in the vineyards and winery, including a special focus on sustainable practices, individual vineyard block harvesting, and small lot fermentation. This meticulous approach ensures that each parcel of fruit is handled individually to maximise the unique characters that stem from each vineyard block, with the classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc aromas of lifted citrus, tropical fruit, and crushed herbs carefully preserved throughout the winemaking process. The individual vineyard block harvesting allows the winemaking team to select fruit at optimal ripeness, capturing the vibrant acidity and ripe tropical fruit flavours of passion fruit, melon, and grapefruit that define this wine. Small lot fermentation ensures that the fresh, juicy character and plenty of weight and length on the palate are maintained, with each lot receiving the specific treatment required to bring out its best qualities before being carefully blended to create the final wine. This attention to detail has resulted in a wine that has been named in the "Wine Spectator Top 100" four times and featured in the "2019 Wine & Spirits Restaurant Top 10" Sauvignon Blanc category, making it a perennial favourite enjoyed by the glass in restaurants worldwide and a benchmark expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Vintage Conditions
The Marlborough wine region is situated at 41º latitude south on the north end of the South Island, one of New Zealand's sunniest and driest regions where the average daily temperature in summer reaches nearly 24ºC (75ºF), resulting in a high heat summation for the growing season that allows the grapes to develop the ripe tropical fruit flavours that characterise this wine. During the daytime, strong and warm north-westerly winds from the mountains prevail, encouraging flower fertility and ripening, whilst in the evenings the temperature shifts dramatically with clear cool nights from ocean breezes keeping acid levels high in the grapes. This diurnal shift is one of the critical components contributing to the intensity of Marlborough wines, allowing the grapes to develop the vibrant acidity and fresh, juicy character that make Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc so distinctive. The combination of warm days that encourage the development of lifted citrus, tropical fruit, and crushed herb aromatics, and cool nights that preserve the natural acidity and freshness, creates the perfect conditions for producing a wine with plenty of weight and length on the palate alongside the vibrant character that ensures it remains lively and elegant. The sustainable practices employed in the vineyards, combined with Marlborough's unique terroir and climate, result in a wine that truly expresses the region's exceptional potential for world-class Sauvignon Blanc production.
