Josef Chromy Pepik Pinot Noir 2024 is a delightful, fruit-driven Tasmanian Pinot Noir crafted with everyday enjoyment in mind — 100% Pinot Noir, destemmed only, fermented in a combination of open-top and enclosed fermenters with a small amount of fruit undergoing carbonic maceration, and a portion matured in neutral oak for concentration and depth. Vibrant cherry red with raspberry beret highlights; lifted sweet berry fruits of raspberry and red mulberry with hints of complex spice and smoky undertones on the nose; a spicy, structured palate full of bright red cherries, little red corvettes, and raspberries with subtle juicy tannins and a lingering finish.

Appearance

Vibrant cherry red with raspberry beret highlights — the bright, inviting colour of a fruit-driven Tasmanian Pinot Noir crafted for early drinking, with the clarity and luminosity that gentle handling throughout fermentation and neutral oak maturation deliver.

Aroma

Lifted sweet berry fruits of raspberry and red mulberry with hints of complex spice and smoky undertones — the expressive, aromatic bouquet of a Pinot Noir fermented with carbonic maceration to ensure lifted aromatics and a fruit-driven style with moderate tannins.

Palate

A spicy, structured palate full of bright red cherries, little red corvettes, and raspberries — with subtle juicy tannins and a lingering finish. Gentle handling throughout fermentation ensures the bright fruit predominates, with the concentration and depth that neutral oak maturation adds without overwhelming the wine’s natural elegance.

Pairs With

Salmon, spicy tomato pastas, light red meats, slow-baked beetroots, and thin-base pepperoni pizza — the bright acidity, juicy tannins, and spicy red fruit make Pepik Pinot Noir a versatile and deeply enjoyable partner for the table. Drink now to 2028.

Winemaking Notes

100% Pinot Noir from Tasmania — grapes picked at optimal ripeness, destemmed only, and fermented in a combination of open-top small batches and cool ferment closed fermenters to draw out complexity and structure whilst ensuring bright fruit predominates. A small amount of the fruit undergoes carbonic maceration for lifted aromatics. A portion of the wine is matured in neutral oak to increase concentration and depth of flavour. 13.4% ABV. Cellaring potential: drink now to 2028.

Producer History

Josef Chromy is one of Tasmania’s most celebrated wine producers — a winery whose story is as remarkable as the wines it produces. Czech-born Josef Chromy arrived in Australia as a refugee in 1950 with nothing, built a business empire, and eventually turned his passion for wine into one of Tasmania’s finest estates at Relbia, near Launceston. The Pepik range — named after Josef’s childhood nickname — is the approachable, fruit-driven expression of the Josef Chromy philosophy: exceptional Tasmanian fruit, crafted with care, and made for everyday enjoyment. The cool Tasmanian climate, with its long growing season and bright natural acidity, produces Pinot Noir of genuine distinction — and Pepik is the most joyful and accessible expression of that distinction.
