Hoddles Creek Wickhams Road Chardonnay 2025 is a forward, lively, and beautifully balanced expression of Upper Yarra Valley Chardonnay — made with the same exacting standards as the Hoddles Creek Estate Chardonnay, and sourced from two complementary Upper Yarra sites. Woori Yallock contributes mid-palate weight; Macclesfield provides finesse and a long, driving acidity. Grown on 17-year-old vines, farmed with sheep in winter and without acidification, fining, or manipulation. Just balanced, expressive Chardonnay from a great site, grown in the right climate.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Bright, luminous straw — fresh and inviting, with the clarity that no-intervention winemaking and a cool, free-draining Upper Yarra site deliver.

Aroma

Forward and lively — expressive cool-climate Chardonnay with the aromatic precision of Macclesfield fruit and the depth and generosity of Woori Yallock.

Palate

Balanced and beautifully structured — mid-palate weight from Woori Yallock, finesse and a long acid drive from Macclesfield. Natural balance and purity with no acidification or manipulation required.

Pairs With

Grilled fish, roast chicken, pasta with cream sauces, and soft cheeses — equally rewarding now or with short-term cellaring.

Finish

Long and driven — the natural acidity of Macclesfield fruit providing a clean, refreshing close that speaks to the quality of the site and the age of the vines.

Winemaking Notes

Sourced from Woori Yallock (mid-palate weight) and Macclesfield (finesse, long acid drive) in the Upper Yarra Valley. The Wickhams Road vineyard is 8 hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 17-year-old VSP-trellised, cane-pruned vines. Sheep run through the property in winter to reduce chemical reliance. No acidification. No fining. No manipulation. Balanced and stable for future ageing without intervention.

Producer History

Hoddles Creek Estate is one of the Yarra Valley’s most respected cool-climate producers. Wickhams Road is a subsidiary vineyard managed to the same exacting standards — 8 hectares in the Upper Yarra, farmed with minimal intervention and a philosophy built around growing grapes in the right climate. Over the last five years, the Chardonnay has moved to source fruit exclusively from the Upper Yarra, where cool nights and natural acidity do the work. Upper Yarra. No intervention. Hoddles Creek at its most honest.
