From a single vineyard on Drummonds Lane, planted in 1999 on Heathcote's iconic 500-million-year-old Cambrian soil, this is a Shiraz of rare depth and composure. The 2022 vintage marks a significant milestone — the estate's first wine to be certified 100% organic, following a four-year transition — and it arrives with the structure and intensity to reward patient cellaring for decades to come.

Appearance

Deep, inky purple-crimson with a dense, youthful core and a fine, clear rim that speaks to the concentration and purity of the vintage.

Aroma

Rich and layered, with dark blackberry and plum at the core, interwoven with complex spice — black pepper and hints of anise. Subtle undertones of graphite and earthy minerality, drawn from the ancient Cambrian soil, add a distinctive and compelling dimension to the bouquet.

Palate

Seamless and refined, with fine, velvety tannins providing structure and elegance. Dark fruit, spice and mineral notes weave through a palate of exceptional balance and intensity, culminating in a long, persistent finish that lingers with grace. A wine of immense potential — cellar for 5–15 years for optimal enjoyment.

Pairs With

Slow-roasted lamb shoulder, aged hard cheeses, beef short rib with bone marrow, venison with black pepper jus, or a classic charcuterie board with dark olives and aged manchego.

Winemaking Notes

Sourced from meticulously selected sections across six distinct blocks and their subsections within the Heathcote Estate vineyard, each processed individually — resulting in 20 unique batches from the 2022 vintage. Grapes were gently de-stemmed with 20% whole bunches included, and fermented in traditional oak fermenters. Following fermentation, the wines were pressed and transferred to 500L French oak puncheons for malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked twice during maturation and bottled in February 2023.

Vintage Conditions

The 2022 growing season began with a prolonged, cold winter in Heathcote, followed by a mild and adequately wet spring that ensured optimal soil moisture across the estate. Mild weather persisted through summer, delaying harvest until 19th February. Fruit quality was exceptional, meeting the highest expectations. The 2022 vintage also marks a landmark moment — the estate's first wine to be certified 100% organic, following a four-year transition period.
