Winery & Vintage Info
With a history dating back to 1920, the Amiot family has been rooted in the Chassagne-Montrachet terroir over the generations. The founders, Flavie (1887-1969) and Arsène (1882-1966), initiated a winemaking vocation that has been passed on to their son Pierre, then their grandson Guy and today to the 4thTh generation represented by the great-grandsons, Thierry (1969), Fabrice (1973), and the 5thTh generation embodied by Thierry's daughter, Héloïse (1995).
It is here in Chassagne-Montrachet that "the greatest white wine in the world" springs forth. Montrachet is a "climat" (also called a plot) classified as a "Grand Cru" of less than 8 hectares shared between only 17 producers, including the Amiot family, alongside renowned estates such as Romanée-Conti, Comtes Lafon, Leflaive, Ramonet... The stony soil, the medium slope and the south-east exposure make up a unique terroir where the Chardonnay grape variety expresses an unequalled aromatic complexity. This unique location forces the excellence of the winemakers responsible for producing the quintessence of the great white wines of Burgundy in each vintage. The fruit of this know-how, passed down from generation to generation, can be counted in bottles too few to satisfy the appetite of lovers of great wines. In Chassagne, rarity has a name: Montrachet.
The Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2020 comes from a steep slope, on the hillside, planted on thin soil, the vine has no choice but to produce little but good: tolerating dry summers thanks to its deep roots, its work is limited to concentrating the best of the terroir (limestone bedrock near the roots and abundant sunshine) in its golden grapes.
