The 2022 vintage of Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz boasts a lively, purple-toned dark cherry flavour. This full-bodied year is characterised by subtle notes of black cherries and dried spice, while the aroma presents a rich medley of various fruits. The smooth, supple texture gives way to a blend of black cherry, berry, olive, and black pepper flavours, all balanced by a bright acidity and tannins that allow for a long finish and impressive ageing potential.

Winery & Vintage Info

Glaetzer Bishop is a celebration of Barossa Shiraz that is elegantly structured with a long finish. Exceptional old vine fruit was sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. Vine age 35—120 years old. Yield 3 tonnes per hectare.

We entered the 2022 season with an above average 2021 winter rainfall. This was beneficial in replenishing the soils and nourishing the vines prior to a dry summer with rainfall more than 20% below average. Some flowering was affected by an early Spring frost that made for a smaller crop. Summer was warm but with no major heat spikes. Late hail made another reduction to the overall crop size in Ebenezer. Indeed 2022 was far from typical vintage but with results that offer everything we could hope for. The general thought in Barossa is that 2022 offered elegance and structure combined with the solid fruit weight to make it a vintage that will last and impress. Our Shiraz definitely reflects that.

Fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters. Extended maceration was employed to enable good tannin development so the wine is soft and approachable early. Matured for 16 months in a mix of 40% new oak and 60% 2— 3 year old oak hogshead barrels (100% French).
