Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is a benchmark Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc of genuine restraint and complexity — hand picked from 28-year-old vines (some plantings back to 1984) in the Wairau Valley, whole bunch pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts before 5 months ageing in stainless steel. Pale straw; restrained elderflower florals with grapefruit, white peach, and pears on the nose, with underlying complex smoky-flint notes; lovely saline acidity and bright citrus fruit on the palate, finishing dry with fine phenolics. Drinks beautifully now or cellar for 5+ years.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Pale straw with a bright, luminous clarity — the hallmark of a benchmark Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc of exceptional precision and purity, with the freshness and focus that indigenous yeast fermentation, whole bunch pressing, and 5 months in stainless steel deliver.

Aroma

Restrained and immediately captivating — elderflower florals lead with elegance and delicacy, with grapefruit, white peach, and pears adding fruit depth and freshness. Underlying complex smoky-flint notes add a layer of genuine Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc distinction and age-worthy complexity.

Palate

Lovely saline acidity and bright citrus fruit burst on the palate with refreshment from the first sip — fruit sweetness complementing and balancing the acid backbone, finishing dry with fine phenolics intertwined with the acidity. A Sauvignon Blanc of genuine balance, complexity, and cellaring potential.

Pairs With

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2025 pairs beautifully with fresh oysters, grilled fish, lemon-dressed seafood, goat’s cheese, asparagus, and light herb-driven dishes — a benchmark Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc of genuine restraint and complexity that rewards both immediate enjoyment and cellaring.

Winemaking Notes

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is produced from 100% UCD1 clone fruit, hand picked from 19 March to 14 April 2025 across silty-clay loam soils with some gravel parcels in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough. Fruit is whole bunch pressed prior to cold settling, then fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 5 months in stainless steel tanks and bottled without fining. 12.5% ABV. Acidity: 7.1 g/L. pH: 3.00.

Vintage Conditions

Spring 2025 started warm and dry, with budburst 7–10 days earlier than average and idyllic conditions setting up one of the best flowering and fruit sets in many decades. December delivered multiple days over 30°C; dry and cloudy conditions dominated January before becoming sunny from February onwards. 2025 proved a season of patience — generous yields and largely favourable weather saw fruit take time to ripen fully, resulting in Dog Point’s longest harvest period (46 days) in 24 years. Marlborough’s classic dry and warm conditions kept fruit quality high throughout, delivering Sauvignon Blanc of genuine complexity, restraint, and age-worthy character.
