Nericon Durif 2021 is a dense, deeply layered Riverina Durif from Dee Vine Estate β€” vibrant purple hues, mulberry and blackberries on the nose, and a complex structure of cassis, blueberries, anise, and pepper spice on the palate. Rich tannins evolve onto the palate providing a long, lively finish accompanied by vanilla oak and luscious floral aromas. A wine that pays tribute to the origins of Dee Vine Estate in 1956, when two brothers from Southern Italy planted their first vines in the small town of Nericon and began a winemaking legacy that is now three generations strong.

Appearance

Dense colour with vibrant purple hues β€” the rich, inviting depth of a Riverina Durif from a vintage where a mild spring and warmer summer allowed the fruit to develop to premium ripeness, harvested in early March at 14.0 baume.

Aroma

Mulberry and blackberries greet the nose β€” with the complex, deeply layered aromatic structure of cassis, blueberries, anise, and pepper spice that Riverina Durif at its best consistently delivers, with luscious floral aromas adding lift and elegance.

Palate

Complex and deeply layered β€” cassis, blueberries, anise, and pepper spice, with rich tannins evolving onto the palate and a long, lively finish accompanied by vanilla oak. The full, generous character of Riverina Durif with the structure and depth to reward the glass and the cellar alike.

Pairs With

Slow-braised beef short rib, roasted lamb shoulder, aged hard cheeses, or a hearty pasta with rich meat ragΓΉ β€” the rich tannins, dense fruit, and pepper spice make this a natural and deeply satisfying partner for the finest food at the table.

Winemaking Notes

A mild spring and warmer summer allowed the fruit to develop to premium ripeness for the 2021 vintage. Harvested in early March at 14.0 baume, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and left to mature on French oak β€” producing the dense colour, rich tannin structure, and vanilla oak integration that define the Nericon Durif style.

Producer History

The Nericon range pays tribute to the origins of Dee Vine Estate β€” founded in 1956 when two brothers, Michele and Domenico Scarfone, migrated from Southern Italy and established their winery in Nericon, a small town in the Riverina region of New South Wales. The following year they planted their first vines with the aim of producing traditional Italian table wines for the Australian market. Three generations later, Dee Vine Estate is a renowned Riverina winery owning and operating numerous vineyards in the local area. The Nericon range is a nod to those beginnings β€” a classic label that embodies quality and timeless sophistication, featuring eight varieties including some of the winery’s best-sellers. From the Scarfone family to yours, every bottle of Nericon carries the passion, dedication, and rich history that has defined Dee Vine Estate for nearly 70 years.
