Tasting Notes

Appearance

The 2024 Crittenden Pinocchio Sangiovese displays a brilliant ruby-red colour with garnet highlights, reflecting the wine's youthful vibrancy and King Valley origins. The medium-depth hue hints at the wine's elegant structure and the cool-climate character that defines this exceptional vintage.

Aroma

The nose reveals vibrant notes of fresh red berries, particularly raspberry and strawberry, intertwined with morello cherries and subtle hints of dried herbs. Delicate floral undertones of violet emerge alongside whispers of earthy spice, black tea, and a touch of Mediterranean scrub. The aromatic profile is fresh, inviting, and quintessentially Sangiovese in character.

Palate

On the palate, Pinocchio delivers bright berry flavours with morello cherry at its core, complemented by subtle notes of red plum and cranberry. The wine's medium body showcases refined balance between fruit intensity and savoury complexity, with hints of dried herbs and earthy minerality adding depth. Crisp acidity provides structure and freshness, whilst structured tannins offer grip without harshness. The lengthy, dry finish features lingering cherry notes, subtle spice, and elegant tannin integration that promises excellent food pairing versatility.

Pairs With

This King Valley Sangiovese pairs beautifully with Italian cuisine, particularly tomato-based pasta dishes and pizza Margherita, where its acidity complements the tomato's natural tartness. Grilled lamb chops and herb-crusted pork work wonderfully with the wine's structured tannins, whilst aged Parmesan and charcuterie boards create elegant pairings for casual entertaining.
