About
Devil's Corner is a Tasmanian wine producer established in 1999 on the rugged East Coast of the island, where the Hazards mountain range meets the waters of Great Oyster Bay. The name comes from a notoriously treacherous bend on the Tamar River — historically feared by early sailors navigating Tasmania's wild coastal waters — and it captures something essential about the brand: wines made in a place where the environment is uncompromising.
The East Coast vineyards were first planted in 2005 and have grown into one of Tasmania's largest vineyard holdings. The cool maritime climate, ancient soils, and long growing season produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Rosé of exceptional purity and precision. The flagship Estate Pinot Noir is consistently recognised as one of Australia's top-selling Pinot Noirs — a rare achievement for a Tasmanian producer operating at this scale.
Regions
History
2005 — Vineyards are first planted on the East Coast site, beginning what would become one of Tasmania's largest vineyard holdings. The cool maritime climate and ancient soils of the East Coast prove ideal for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and cool-climate white varieties.
2010 — Brown Brothers acquires Devil's Corner, along with the Tamar Ridge and Pirie Tasmania labels, from forestry company Gunns Limited for $32.5 million. The acquisition marks a strategic expansion by the historic Victorian family winery into premium cool-climate Tasmanian terroir. Tom Wallace, originally from New Zealand, joins the Brown Family Wine Group as Head Winemaker for the Tasmanian operations.
2010–present — Under Tom Wallace's winemaking leadership, Devil's Corner grows into a major commercial success. The Estate Pinot Noir becomes one of Australia's top-selling Pinot Noirs, establishing the brand as the benchmark for accessible, high-quality Tasmanian cool-climate wine.
Today — Devil's Corner produces Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Rosé, and the premium Resolution Pinot Noir from its East Coast Tasmanian vineyards. Tom Wallace manages all Tasmanian production under the broader oversight of Chief Winemaker Joel Tilbrook across the Brown Family Wine Group.
