Wickhams Road Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2023

Wickhams Road is a subsidiary Hoddles Creek Estate, they manage an 8 hectare vineyard planted solely to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It is a great site as it is cool, free draining and the vines are now 17 years old. The vineyard is trellised to VSP and is always cane pruned. During the winter months, sheep run through the property to reduce the reliance on chemical control for weeds and grasses. The resultant wines are balanced, and require no acidification or fining.

Over the last 5 years, the Wickhams Roads have been moving to source the Chardonnay fruit exclusively from the Upper Yarra Valley. The Upper Yarra has the advantages of cool nights and less heat spikes than the valley floor. Growing grapes in the right climates provides the benefit of creating wines without intervention. No acidification or manipulation of the wines to make them stable for future ageing. Winery Notes.
