The 2021 Warrabilla Parola’s Durif is completely opaque with a dark crimson rim. A pool of deep blue and black fruits on the nose - blueberry, blackberry, cassis, and a flicker of vanilla bean from high quality oak.

Deep and rich on entry - pure dark fruits, blood plum, mocha, dark chocolate, licorice twist and more. Frirmly structured as you would expect from a young Durif, with fruit and oak tannins meshing neatly together. Completely mouth filling, though balanced with a long, flowing finish.

Winery & Vintage Info

Six generations and more than 150 years of family winemaking in Rutherglen. Home to Australia's most powerful red wines.

While the Sutherland Smith story in Rutherglen commenced in 1864, a new chapter began in 1991 when Andrew Sutherland Smith and wife Carol established Warrabilla Wines. The cellar door was opened at its current site west of Rutherglen five years later. Throughout the years, the reputation for producing red wines of immense structure and impeccable balance has grown, while the commitment to quality and the unapologetic approach to flavour remains.

The Parola’s Durif has long been the flagship of the winery. While not released every year, we relish them all the more in those unicorn years when they appear. Possessing a concentration, palate weight and viscosity unlike any other, previous vintages of this wine have been likened to "a hippopotamus in a tutu" - a graceful, lithe and supple creature of substantial structure.

An absolutely decadent wine to enjoy now, or leave for 8-10 years to enjoy with bottle aged character.
