The 2023 Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz has a rich, deep crimson colour with ruby red hues. The nose is mainly focused on fruit, displaying delightful hints of raspberries, red cherries, cranberry, and blackcurrants. Along with these, the aroma of bakery goods like black forest cake and vanilla sponge, as well as subtle touches of dark Dutch cocoa powder can also be detected. Upon further examination, one can also notice notes of spice such as paprika, turmeric, and white pepper, along with a mouthwatering scent of charcuterie. On the palate, the sweet, lush fruit flavours of raspberry, cranberry, and blackcurrant are complemented by a refreshing acidity that leads to a juicy finish. The fine-grained tannins and flavours of charcuterie add structure and balance, enhancing the overall fruit profile of this wine.
