The 2019 vintage Siblings Shiraz from Leeuwin Estate of Margaret River has a dense and dark nose, with concentrated blackcurrant, redcurrant, and blueberries. Beneath therein lies layers cocoa, cola and gentle smoky oak. Elevated notes of violets, Szechuan pepper, tobacco, anise and clove are also present. The palate is light on its feet, bright and buoyant. The frame of the palate is centred on a black fruit core, combined with cardamom, chocolate and cracked coffee bean. Laced acidity gives definition and drive, leading to structural tannins.
“Glossy, vibrant and super-juicy, this is routinely a wine that over-delivers in the pleasure stakes, while asking very little in return – $24 is blistering value. From a house that takes shiraz seriously, and seriously doesn't over-handle or over-oak it (thank goodness), this cool-vintage iteration has every bit as much plump and plushness as the previous vintage, and no doubt the 2020 to follow will be in the same vein. It's a no-brainer.”
The 2018 Siblings Shiraz from Leeuwin Estate has juicy and concentrated aromas packed with plums, cherries and forest fruits. Black cardomom, star anise cedar, cinnamom and nutmeg add extra detail and complexity. Soft and supple entry on the palate with blueberries and raspberries at the forefront. Delicate weight through the middle with some savoury notes and quartz like acidity leads a structure chalky finish.
