Hargreaves Hill was established in 2004 by Simon Walkenhorst — a man whose commonplace before brewing was a concert hall rather than a brewery, performing classical piano pieces to the masses. His partner in life and in crime, Beth Williams, is an opera singer and musician, and together they brought a melting pot of creativity, talent, and an obsession with refinement to Australian craft beer. Those same values of classic mastery that defined Simon’s musical life were channelled into craft beer from the very first brew.
Family-owned and fiercely independent, Hargreaves Hill survived the brewery being burnt down in the Black Saturday fires — and emerged as one of the most respected and pioneering craft breweries in Australia, known for their mastery of classic styles and an astonishing range of seasonal releases. With a solid, award-winning core range and constant exploration in taste, there is something for everyone at Hargreaves Hill.
