Established in 1999, Fraser Gallop Estate comprises 50 acres under vine on an elevated aspect six kilometres from the south west coast of Western Australia at the heart of the Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River.
Hand picked and meticulously maintained by the same team of professionals since conception, the vineyard has become one of the most recognised and awarded in the region with the Fraser Gallop Cabernet Merlot garnering medals and awards from esteemed wine icon, James Halliday.
The unique location, geography and gravelly laterite loams over clay subsoil of the estate has resulted in the sought after colour, flavours and aromas found only in the Fraser Gallop wines.
The region's pristine isolation beside the Indian Ocean; the maritime climate; and the vineyard’s undulating topography provide the ideal conditions in which to grow Bordeaux and Burgundy grape varieties.
Their respect for the land is evident in every aspect of the Estate’s development. They encourage maximum fruit quality and flavour by dry-farming; nurturing the soil with composted grape lees and controlling weeds and pests naturally.
The style of Cabernet Merlot made at Fraser Gallop Estate is a wine that has greater freshness from a short time on skins and short barrel maturation and good concentration of flavour that comes naturally from dry grown Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. The result is a sumptuous blend that drinks well early however can be cellared for a short period of 4-6 years.
The blending of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot has been proven in Margaret River’s short history and elsewhere, such as Bordeaux where the blend originated. The varieties work so well because structural tannins of Cabernet are tamed by the inherent mid-palate richness and softness of the Merlot grape.
