History

Established in 1838 by the pioneering Ryrie brothers, Yering Station holds the distinction of being one of Victoria's first vineyards, originally operating as a small vineyard and cattle farm in the nascent days of Australian viticulture. Throughout the centuries that followed, the property changed hands between families, each contributing to its evolving legacy whilst the Yarra Valley itself experienced periods of both viticultural triumph and dormancy. The modern renaissance of Yering Station began in 1996 when the Rathbone family purchased the historic property, recognising its extraordinary potential and determined to restore it to its rightful place amongst Australia's finest wine estates. Since then, the Rathbones have invested significantly in both vineyard development and winemaking facilities, transforming Yering Station into a world-class operation that honours its pioneering heritage whilst embracing contemporary innovation. The estate's nearly two-century journey from the Ryrie brothers' original vision to today's acclaimed winery exemplifies the enduring quality of the Yarra Valley as a premium wine region, proving that great terroir, when combined with passion and expertise, can produce wines of exceptional and consistent quality across generations.
