Veuve Fourny & Fils Grande Réserve Brut NV is a Vertus Premier Cru Champagne from one of the Côte des Blancs’ most exciting artisan producers — chalky, creamy, and complex, with a lovely balance of breadiness and freshness and the funky, distinctive character that is unmistakably Vertus. Ridiculously good quality for the special moments.

Appearance

Bright gold with fine, persistent bubbles — the luminous colour of a Vertus Premier Cru Champagne grown on redzine over chalk, with the clarity and precision that 2½ years on tirage and a carefully judged dosage of 6g/L deliver.

Aroma

Fine but complex and funky — typical of Vertus, with chalky and creamy characters and biscuit-like notes from the Pinot Noir component. An excellent combination of fruit and subtle biscuit aromas, with the depth and character that 40% reserve wines from previous vintages and 40-year-old vines on south-facing Premier Cru slopes produce.

Palate

Chalky and creamy with a lovely balance of breadiness and freshness — the Chardonnay delivering finesse and elegance, the Pinot Noir adding body and texture, and the reserve wines providing the complexity and consistency that define the Fourny house style. A beautiful Champagne from salt of the earth, hard-working people — and as good as it gets.

Pairs With

Oysters, grilled fish, lobster, soft cheeses, and the finest charcuterie — or simply as the perfect apéritif for the special moments that deserve a grower Champagne of genuine distinction. The chalky minerality, creamy texture, and beautiful balance make Veuve Fourny Grande Réserve a deeply satisfying and natural partner for the finest food at the table.

Producer History

The real excitement in Champagne is from the small artisan producers of the Côte des Blancs — and Charles and Emmanuel Fourny from Vertus are at the forefront of that excitement. Veuve Fourny & Fils is a family grower Champagne house whose vineyards in Vertus Premier Cru, on redzine over chalk with south-facing slopes and 40-year-old vines, produce Chardonnay of remarkable concentration, aromatics, and character. The Grande Réserve is the fullest expression of that terroir and that family dedication — chalky, creamy, complex, and funky in the best possible way. Beautiful Champagne from salt of the earth, hard-working people. As good as it gets.
