Veuve Fourny & Fils Grande Reserve Brut Vertus Premier Cru champagne has a fine but complex and funky aroma, typical of Vertus. Quite chalky and creamy with some biscuit like characters from the Pinot Noir. 40% Reserve wines from previous vintages added. Traditional ‘house’ style. Excellent combination of fruit and subtle biscuit aromas. A lovely balance of breadiness and freshness. 80% Chardonnay for finesse and elegance, 20% Pinot Noir for body and texture.

The real excitement in Champagne is from the small artisan producers in Cotes des Blanc. Charles and Emmanuel Fourny from Vertus are at the forefront of that excitement. They produce fabulous Cuvées like this Veuve Fourny & Fils Grande Reserve Brut Vertus Premier Cru which is ridiculously good quality. This is beautiful Champagne from salt of the earth, hard working people and as good as it gets for the special moments.

Soil is redzine over chalk. The Chardonnay grapes come from several plots on the Les Mont- Ferrés (Vertus ler Cru). The fruit from this site gives good concentration and produces quite aromatic juices and resulting base wine. Slopes face South and South- East giving optimal maturing conditions. Average age of the vines is 40 years.
