With every vintage our winemaking team learn more about the influence of the site on the flavour and quality of the wines.

The concept for Gamekeeper’s arose after the creation of the “Poacher’s Blend” – a great approachable red wine to match the white blend. And the thinking was that you can’t have a Poacher unless there is a Gamekeeper!

St Hallett Gamekeeper's Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 has lifted varietal Cabernet aromas of blackcurrant and violets.

It is fresh and vibrant with blueberry, a touch of herbs and approachable tannins on the palate.

Winery & Vintage Info

The 2017 vintage commenced about four weeks later than the previous five, and was coined by many as the ‘old normal’, with the first Shiraz was ready on 4th March. Mild temperatures through February provided a steady ramp-up in crushing.

Cabernet Sauvignon has delivered wines true to style, with succulent texture and varietal characters. The 2017 vintage was preceded by a favourable season in the Barossa that allowed all vineyards to produce both strong yields and high quality, and has delivered some absolute standout wines from pedigree vineyards.

All St Hallett wines are made from 100% Barossa fruit. Shiraz is king in the region, but our winemakers are always on the hunt for good quality Barossa Cabernet that can flourish in noteworthy areas.

The St Hallett winemaking philosophy is relatively simple - minimum intervention and maximum attention.

Our Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards were crushed and fermented separately in ferments lasting 7 days, at temperatures between 22 to 24 degrees. Post fermentation the wine was partially matured in American Oak, before being blended and bottled. Winery Notes
