The making of Momo Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2022 was marked by its challenging conditions, requiring constant attention after a period of relatively easy vintages. Dry, stable weather during flowering led to an abundant fruit set, and consistent small rain events resulted in strong growth across the vineyard.
Significant rainfall occurred leading into the harvest period, which increased berry and bunch size, but also raised disease pressure. Fortunately, within the Raupo Creek vineyard and our organic partner vineyards in the Wairau and Waihopai Valley, teams worked diligently to address this. Each plot was harvested before significant disease pressure could develop, resulting in a notable vintage for our white wines, which exhibit depth of flavour, structure, and acidity.
Certified organic grapes were machine-harvested in cool temperatures during March and April. The fruit was pressed, settled, and the clear juice was carefully racked into various stainless-steel vessels.
A long, cool fermentation process was used to enhance the pure, distinctive flavours characteristic of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. After a short period on lees, the wine was stabilised and filtered before bottling.
