Tasting Notes

Appearance

This distinguished Portuguese Tawny Port presents a reddish tawny colour of genuine warmth and aged character, displaying the outstanding quality characteristic of Graham’s Fine Tawny Port — matured in seasoned oak casks for an average of three years, lighter in colour and texture than Ruby and slightly drier, from one of the Douro Valley’s most celebrated and historically significant Port houses. Remains fresh for four to six weeks once opened.

Aroma

The nose is immediately inviting, with ripe fruit aromas of genuine freshness and appeal nicely balanced by hints of dried fruits of warm, aged complexity — an aromatic profile of outstanding balance, elegance and authentic Graham’s Fine Tawny Port character. A bouquet of exceptional approachability and finesse that reflects the fine balance of fruitiness and nuttiness derived from three years of maturation in seasoned oak casks.

Palate

Elegant and smooth on the palate, with lingering nut and caramel flavours of exceptional warmth and distinction delivering a flavour profile of genuine sophistication and enduring appeal. The fine balance of fruitiness and nuttiness — derived from the oxygen that freely permeates the seasoned oak casks during maturation — is the hallmark of Graham’s Fine Tawny style. The finish is elegant, smooth and deeply satisfying. Serve chilled in a large Port or white wine glass.

Pairs With

This exceptional Graham’s Fine Tawny Port pairs perfectly with dried fruit, creamy desserts, caramel tart, mixed nuts, aged hard cheeses, or enjoyed chilled on its own as a versatile aperitif or after-dinner digestif — elegant, approachable and enduringly rewarding.

Production Notes

Graham’s Fine Tawny Port is lighter in colour and texture than Ruby and slightly drier — the young wine matured in seasoned oak casks for an average of three years, allowing the wine to come into contact with the oxygen that freely permeates the wood of the barrels. This patient and meticulous approach to maturation delivers a Fine Tawny of outstanding balance — ripe fruit and dried fruit on the nose, lingering nut and caramel on the palate, and an elegant, smooth finish of genuine distinction. Serve chilled in a large Port or white wine glass and enjoy within four to six weeks of opening for optimum freshness.

History

For almost two hundred years, W & J Graham’s has been an independent family business renowned for producing the finest Port wines — a story of two families across three centuries of extraordinary heritage, passion and winemaking excellence. Graham’s was one of the first Port companies to invest in its own vineyards in Portugal’s Douro Valley in 1890 and has always been a pioneer — today at the cutting edge of innovation in winemaking techniques. Five Symington cousins share responsibility for every aspect of the company and personally make the Graham’s wines, with ancestry in Port and the Douro dating back to the mid-17th century — a legacy of family dedication, generational expertise and enduring Port house distinction that is reflected in every bottle of Graham’s Fine Tawny Port.
