History

The Appleton Estate's storied heritage dates back to 1749, making it one of the oldest continuously operating sugar estates and rum distilleries in the Caribbean. For over 270 years, the estate has remained dedicated to the art of rum-making, passing down traditional distillation techniques through generations whilst embracing innovation to refine their craft. The distillery's location in the Nassau Valley proved instrumental to its success, with the estate's 11,000 acres providing everything needed for rum production, from sugar cane cultivation to the pure limestone spring water essential for fermentation and blending. Throughout its history, Appleton Estate has weathered colonial transitions, economic shifts and changing tastes, yet has consistently maintained its reputation for producing rums of exceptional quality.
