Domaine A Pinot Noir is a substantial style with fine tannin structure and great longevity. The small 2ha plot of low yielding Pinot Noir vines is situated on the highest part of the vineyard slope at Domaine A. Low yields of 4.5 tonnes per ha and small, concentrated berries mean it takes two vines to make a single bottle of Domaine A Pinot Noir. Made with minimal intervention, matured in seasoned French oak for 18 months, bottled un-fined and unfiltered.

"Matured 18 months in seasoned French oak barriques. A powerfully rich and ripe Domaine A that succeeds in the difficult art of pushing pinot noir to a depth of colour, fruit density, spirit and structure well beyond its usual realm. It erupts with potpourri, fruit mince spice, lavender and eucalyptus, rising dramatically from a core of satsuma plum and prune. Firm, fine, dry tannins mirror a ripe vintage in this dry site. For all its proportions, it holds integrity and persistence on the finish. Those who love big pinots will delight in this one!"

Winery & Vintage Info

Domaine A was founded on a grand plan – to produce big Bordeaux-inspired reds at the end of the earth and honour old world ideals in the new world. After much success, their wine receives acclaim as some of the country’s finest, even rivalling the best of Bordeaux.

Their approach to winemaking is unyielding and without compromise. If the fruit isn’t perfect, the wine doesn’t get made. In this age of instant gratification they only release wines at their best. Vines are hand-plucked, hand-tied and hand-picked during the cool days of autumn. Wines are pressed down by hand.

Tasmania is a cool-climate wine country. Ancient soil and champagne air. A temperate maritime climate and long hours of sunshine, even over the long cool season. Slow-ripening fruit and aromatic varieties brought forth from their impeccably tended Stoney Vineyard—the oldest in the historic Coal River Valley in southern Tasmania. Each vintage is a constant reflection of this extraordinary, elemental terroir: climate and soil, vineyard and method, founded on 200-million-year-old Jurassic dolerite. These wines have distinct personalities, not constrained by region or varietal typicity.
