Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut 2008 750ml (Champagne, France)

The Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut 2008 is a clear, brilliant, gold colour which lights up in the delicate tumult of fine bubbles produced by its persistent and remarkable effervescence.

The nose is fresh, refined and elegant. Fragrances of citrus fruit and stone fruits (peach, apricot) appear first, which are then enriched by delicate, warm notes of sweet pastries (almonds, Mirabelle plum tart): a subtle alliance of freshness and fullness.

On the palate, the frank, lively and pure attack moves into a powerful, struc- tured palate, delicately chiselled from the minerality of Champagne's chalky terroir. The generosity of the Pinot Noir's fruitiness resonates harmoniously with the freshness of the lightly candied citrus fruit aromas (lemon) which are embellished in the finish with delicate hints of toasted notes and dried fruit (apricots).

Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut 2008 champagne is the perfect combination of power, freshness and finesse, and ends with an incredibly long finish.

Founded in 1772, Veuve Clicquot has since lived by its motto, "Only one quality, the finest". Madame Clicquot herself created the first vintage Champagne ever in 1810. Since then, every vintage has been the expression of one, exceptional harvest.

As with every vintage, this wine is a reflection of the year's weather and climate. 2008 ended wonderfully with the grapes maturing in ideal conditions. The harvests, grouped together throughout Champagne, took place between mid-September and early October, in perfect weather. The quality of this harvest was exceptional, with great potential for ageing. Naturally then, 2008 was declared a Veuve Clicquot Vintage, the third in the decade following 2002 and 2004 and the House's 65th since its first Vintage of 1810. New to this 2008 Vintage: 5% of the wines were produced and aged in wooden casks from forests in Central France, from Allier and Vosges. This was to increase the complexity and aromatic richness of our Vintages, our gourmet wines. These cask-aged wines act as the spices for the blend. They bring very lightly woody, vanilla and toasted aromas.

As with every Vintage champagne, Pinot Noir dominates, making up 61% of the blend. It comes essentially from the south of the Montagne de Reims and the Marne Valley, with the following Grands and Premiers Crus: Ambonnay, Bouzy, Tauxières, Avenay and Ay. The northern slope of the Montagne de Reims is also present: Verzy, Verzenay and Ludes. The Chardonnay comes entirely from the Côte des Blancs (Mesnil sur Oger, Oger, Vertus) and makes up 34%. The Meunier is from the Montagne de Reims (Ludes) and the Marne Valley (Dizy) and completes the blend at 5%. Winery Notes Veuve Clicquot Vintage Brut 2008 will pair perfectly with a range of delicate foods like oysters, white fish, white meats, mushrooms or 12-month-aged Comté cheese. It is not recommended to pair this champagne with blue cheeses.
