Composed & meticulously crafted, this wine shows the true worth of old-vine Barossa shiraz. An elegant yet powerful wine, it is approachable in youth, yet will cellar for many years.

The 2013 proved testing for Shiraz in the Barossa Valley. A dry winter led into a hot and arid summer creating a low yielding, early and short vintage. These conditions have distilled the characters for which the region has become famous.

The Turkey Flat Shiraz 2013 Cellar Release is a deeply alluring colour draws you in to a bouquet rich in red berry with a hint of spice. Red currants, plum and a hint of liquorish layer the palate. Rich, generous and structured the 2013 Shiraz will always be undeniably forward.

"Fragrant, spicy and fruitcake-cedar scented. Has Souk spiciness. Serious, yet sensitively weighted in the mouth, with mid-palate creaminess and building tannins. Subtly smoked oak which compliments the fruit. Massive power: goes on and on."
95 Points - Tim White, The Adelaide Financial Review, July 2015

"Turkey Flat Shiraz just keeps ticking over the scoreboard, accumulating runs. Little fuss but excellent results.

It’s both elegant and bold; it milks the middle ground, and quite beautifully so. Plum, creamy vanillin, peppermint and clove with a slightly briney edge. Feels awkward when you first open it but given a good chance to breathe the gears slot snugly together. Grainy tannin is a highlight but its biggest plus is its balance. Poise is a better word to describe it. It’s not showy but it’s an excellent wine."

Winery & Vintage Info

The Turkey Flat Vineyard boasts some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world. Planted in 1847, these hard-working gnarled old vines are still producing fantastic grapes. They are dry grown with their roots extending metres into the soil in search of moisture.

Much of the credit for the best Shiraz made in the Barossa is due to old vines such as these. The fact that these vines still exist is largely due to a far-sighted quarantine scheme, in which South Australia was spared the phylloxera outbreak which devastated the vineyards of Europe, America and subsequently parts of Australia in the late 1800’s.

This shiraz is a result of a very intricate blending process. After each parcel of fruit is individually vilified & aged in specially selected French oak barrels, the final blend is created with careful consideration to upholding its reputation for cellaring gracefully, retaining its freshness and balance for many years.

When your considering what to pair wine with and you think 'Shiraz' you think 'steak' - and rightly so! But don't be afraid to challenge your palate & go for something new like dark, bitter chocolate, by itself or added to a sauce for braised oxtail or venison. Winery Notes

"Medium to deep garnet-purple coloured, the 2013 Shiraz has a gorgeous nose of black cherry compote, blueberry pie and crème de cassis with suggestions of violets, vanilla pod, baking spices and dried mint. Full-bodied with plenty of expressive spice-laced fruit in the mouth, the tannins are soft and fine while the acid lends seamless freshness through the long finish.
91+ Points - Lisa Perotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate, June 2015

"Turkey Flat has long established its distinguished, yet seemingly effortless, medium-bodied style that doesn't have to carry to burden of high alcohol; the flavours cover the full range of red, purple and black fruits, with a juicy core given texture and shape by precisely managed oak and tannins. Its overarching balance guarantees a long life."
