St Hallett Black Clay Shiraz 2016
Bouquet is vibrant and rich, full of blueberry and dark cherry with a hint of mocha.
A bold and opulent palate to follow, filled with generous red berry fruits, dark plums, and completed by supple, supportive tannins.
"From the airport lounge collection of wine reviews. Matched with chicken/pesto/tomato/cheese toasted sandwich, a bowl of trail mix and a single liquorice allsort. Sublime dining. Thank you, Virgin. Just to make this review political, Virgin is so much better than Qantas. The private entrances to lounge and discreet security detail perhaps the icing on cake. *I do write for the airline magazine but this doesn’t reflect on my entire focus on Velocity points.
Hot n spicy, rich, generous and lush. It’s a punchy red, right through to aggressive acidity and a screech of tannin to close. That being said, there’s a charm in the perfume, dark berries, plum, choc-liqourice, kirsch. The palate is a jangly sort of affair, but texture by and large remains smooth to the hard-to-love finish. Anyway, it’s not bad fodder for a quick scoff."

Together with other established Barossa winery families such as Rockford, Lehmann, Melton and Burge, St Hallett understood the importance of saving the old vines and focusing on the key varieties for the Barossa region – particularly Shiraz.
Strong long-term relationships with focussed and passionate growers give St Hallett access to the Barossa’s most prized vineyards with some dating back over 100 years. Over time St Hallett has built up a deep understanding of the rich tapestry of sites and climates in the Barossa and with it an appreciation of both dedicated growers and quality vines.
An unrivalled dedication to preserving the integrity of these individual growers’ parcels of fruit has always been the St Hallett philosophy. By tailoring fermentation and maturation to each parcel, we reveal the rich textures, depth and diversity of Barossa wine. Winery Notes
