"French, American and Hungarian oak shape this wine. This comes from a single plot of a significant vineyard for Schild Estate. Brooding wine.Lovely perfume, rich, dense, dark Barossa shiraz through and through. Heartland stuff in sweet earth, choc-liquorice, very ripe forest berries, coconut, clove oak. Smooth, thick, lush and concentrated in the palate. A freight train on wide tracks. It finishes reasonably fresh, a touch lemony and tight which distracts, but the body, weight and motion of the wine is pretty seductive in its style. Ample done very well. A big red with just about spot on balance."

Winery & Vintage Info

Upon purchasing the Three Springs property in 1952, Ben Schild transformed the land into a mixed farm with a focus on sustainable viticulture and planted the seed that would one day become Schild Estate.

Sourced from a carefully selected single vineyard parcel in the hills overlooking Lyndoch, this wine has been created as a fitting tribute to the man that started the family’s long association with viticulture & winemaking in the Barossa. Fermented in small open fermenters before being matured in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak for 24 months and then undergoing a further 24 months maturation in bottle prior to release.
