Roero Arneis 2011
Arneis is a variety that means "little rascal" in the local dialect of Peidmont because it is extremely difficult to cultivate, is low yielding and is susceptible to disease. But when the vignerons persevere and the season is bountiful we reap the benefits of this super white variety. Whilst it does well here in Australia and in California as well, the original climatic conditions and the altitude of Roero seem to bring out the best in Arneis. The wine presents beautifully in the glass, with sharp pale green hues and remarkably clear. The nose is a little subdued, but there are hints of pear and floral characters. The palate leaps about with pears and peach and more, you should also recognise some crisp apple liveliness at the end. The finish is suitably medium dry and lengthy.
