Tar & Roses Tempranillo 2016 (Heathcote)
Tar & Roses Tempranillo 2016 from the Heathcote wine region is a deep burgundy colour with a complex array of sweet mulberries, tarragon and sea salt on the nose.
The palate is plush and round with delicious lingering flavours of satsuma plums. Well balanced with substantial chalky tannin, the wine finishes rich and long.

During fermentation the temperature and acid levels were monitored constantly. The wine was pressed to tank using an air bag press then racked off gross lees and transferred to barrel to finish malolactic fermentation.
It was left to mature in a combination of new French and older barriques.
In contrast to the Nebbiolo and Sangiovese in our range, Tempranillo is an early ripener and has no problem reaching full maturity in the soils at Heathcote.
Tempranillo is prone to developing big bunches and berries when grown in rich soil so the rather gravely, tougher soil specific to Heathcote in particular, provides some restraint.
Grown largely in the Rioja and Ribero del Duero regions of Spain, it is well suited to the warm, dry summers of Central Victoria. Winery Notes
FOUR STARTS - One of the more trusted tempranillo producers in the country, here tapping into the wonders of the Heathcote region to create a rich, ripe, black cherry bomb of a wine that exudes a pleasing, balanced attitude to its aromatic, oak sitting behind the fruit and prettier anise and cola. The palate has freshness and flavour in spades, a rich, chewy texture though it eases in the finish with mid-grain tannins.

Finds a neat middle ground between oak hewn and joven styles with its bright, berry fruitiness, cherry-cola scents, earthiness and firm ropes of slender tannin. Readily likeable for its medium weight, chomp to texture and juiciness, it's a tempranillo that shows some warmth, but also a freshness. Appealing wine.
