Whitebox Shiraz 2016 (Heathcote)
The 2016 Whitebox Heathcote Shiraz is deep purple-red colour, highlighting all of the hallmarks of a great vintage in the region. Intense aromas of red fruit, chocolate and leather. The palate is typical Whitebox; rich, intense and complex with flavours of plum, blackberry, vanilla and spice supported by French & American oak.
Whitebox is situated on the eastern slopes of the Mt Camel range, atop some of the most sensational Shiraz growing terrain anywhere in the world. So named because the vineyard is sanctuary to one of the largest remnant stands of White Box eucalypts.
Each parcel of fruit for the 2016 Whitebox Shiraz was fermented separately in traditional open fermenters, and given varying levels of maceration to enhance complexity and to provide a wide array of flavours and textures to the final blend. malolactic fermentation and maturation in new & old french oak and temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for periods varying from six to eighteen months (dependent on wine structure) followed, prior to assemblage of the finished wine.
Portion in small french barrels 6 - 18 months, & portion in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Shiraz 99%, Viognier 1%. Winery Notes
