Schild Estate Ben Schild Reserve Shiraz 2013
Deep, dark purple. Dense and solid to the edge with a aromatic primary fruit aromas of blood plums and blackcurrants are accompanied by just a hint of violet flowers, soft creamy fresh vanilla bean, dark chocolate and mocha notes and a fleeting, wafting subtle glimpse of oak spice.
A classic core of plush, lifted dark berry compote fruit, coupled with classic chocolate and spice flavours and a vibrant acid line ensures some freshness and vitality on tasting. This primary fruit holds its line to the end constantly intertwined and enveloped by a fine, but ever present tannin structure providing some clear framing , direction and balance and ensures no jagged edges are evident.

Sourced from a carefully selected single vineyard parcel in the hills overlooking Lyndoch, this wine has been created as a fitting tribute to the man that started the family’s long association with viticulture & winemaking in the Barossa.
The 2013 vintage was fermented in small open fermenters before being matured in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak for 24 months and then undergoing a further 24 months maturation in bottle prior to release.
2013 was a one of those wonderful year’s where mother nature provides the kind of climatic conditions that sees both winemakers and vignerons get excited.
We saw sufficient, but not excessive rainfall which fell at the right times. There was also a lack of excessive heat. These combined ensuring that the ripening cycle was slow and deliberate resulting in great fruit depth, structure and balance to many of the wines produced from this year. Winery Notes
