Shortly after leaving the family company in 1980, Geoff Hardy established Pertaringa, which has since continued to produce some of McLaren Vale's finest wines. The name Pertaringa means 'belonging to the hills' and originates from the local Kaurna indigenous language.
The Undercover Shiraz is named in recognition of McLaren Vale’s history of supplying other regions with our finest red grapes. Known as the mid palate of Australia, McLaren Vale fruit is well regarded for its ability to improve the quality and richness of wines from other regions.
Spring and summer were cooler than normal with above average rainfall and the 2017 vintage happened much later than usual. The combination of those factors and dry weather for most of the harvest resulted in higher yields and excellent quality across regions.
Maturation took place in 15% new French and American oak for 18 months, and was bottled on the 6th October 2018. Winery Notes
