Paul Osicka 'Majors Creek Vineyard' Shiraz 2019 (Heathcote)
Tasting Notes:
The 2019 vintage Paul Osicka Majors Creek Vineyard Shiraz is vibrant with blue fruits and Dutch liquorice, then complexing characters of dark pepper, graphite, cedar and exotic spices. The palate is initially quite juicy and flavoursome with silky tannins. Then it becomes more savoury textured as a core of dark fruits and chocolate underpinned by cedary oak and tannin carries through to the finish.Reviews & Accolades
"Bittersweet bottling that commemorates the passing of Paul Peter Osicka while welcoming the new arrival of Matilda Ruth Osicka. It’s great that some winemakers have the ability to reflect such personal things on their labels. These sit in the Marius/Wendouree kind of zone for me, as I have said before. Distinct for the region through positive idiosyncrasies and sites, and great for it. Strong regional character as this is a hearty red, packed full of character, stuffed to the gills with briary, dark berry fruit, sweet earth, turned earth, salted liquorice, green herbs and faint eucalyptus. The defining, unique character of Osicka wines is that Aussie bush thing going, the elevation is in the quality of tannin – both here in surround sound. Awesome texture, fine, emery board tannins wrap the palate and drive the wine long and to a fresh, fine finish. Excellent, bolshy red."94+ Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, May 2021, Drink: 2021 - 2035+

Paul Osicka Wines was started by former Czech Vigneron Paul Osicka in 1955, and is the longest established wine producer in the Heathcote Wine Region.
The 2019 Majors Creek Vineyard Shiraz is estate grown, made and bottled by Paul and Simon Osicka, the second and third generations involved in the business. The 10 Ha of Shiraz was hand picked in separate parcels dependent on soil type from the estate vineyard. Red veined quartz offering spice and tight tannins. Sandy Ironstone giving thickness and power. Deeper loams over gravel giving fruit fragrance and silky fine tannins.
The fruit was hand picked and sorted post destemmer. These parcels were handled by gravity (no pumps) and fermented in small open pots as separate parcels, spending 3 to 4 weeks on skins. They were then matured in French oak (about 20% new) for about 14 months prior to blending and bottling. Winery NotesCase Qty | 6 |
