Rutherglen Estate Sangiovese 2019
The Rutherglen Estate Sangiovese 2019 wine exhibits a vibrant red with brick red hues. Aromas of cherries, red berries and spice with nuances of dark chocolate. This elegant and quaffable version of our Rutherglen Sangiovese has balanced cherry and strawberry varietal characters, red berry, chocolate and spice with the integrated oak supported by dark earthy notes and fine Sangiovese tannin.
Enjoyed with a hearty homemade minestrone soup, sprinkled with parmesan cheese together with some crusty white bread. It also suits a wide range of pre-dinner aperitifs such as bruschetta, antipasto and vegetables.
The Rutherglen Estate was acquired by the iconic De Bortoli Wines in 2018 and is the world leader in production of fortified wines such as Muscat, Port and Topaque (formerly known as Tokay). One of the most progressive and diverse viticultural regions in Australia, Rutherlgen is also recognised for producing premium quality red wines and many European white varietals.
The fruit for the Rutherglen Estate Sangiovese 2019 is grown on a small, low yielding, super-premium Estate Vineyard. The grapes were harvested, crushed and underwent a two day cold soak before warming and fermenting naturally with indigenous yeast. The wine has been aged in a French oak hogshead and puncheons with 18% new and 22% two year old barrels, for fourteen months to accentuate both the bright cherry notes, as well as the naturally spicy and savoury characters.
