Sons Of Eden Kennedy GSM 2017 (Barossa Valley)
Tasting Notes
The 2017 Sons Of Eden 'Kennedy' a GSM blend, is deep crimson hue, bursting with ripe cherry, plum, sweet spice and red liquorice aromas. A complex blend of palate flavours are supported by soft, velvety tannins all finishing with a savoury undertone. Grenache (40%), Shiraz (34%) and Mourvedre (26%)
"As my colleague Walsh has noted [See Gary Walsh 2016 vintage review below], you can count on Kennedy.
I tasted through a range of Sons of Eden current/new releases recently and this wine stood out. I tasted them without knowing the asking prices and so I was surprised/delighted to find that this was also about the most affordable of them. Some days you have a win. What I like about this is that it’s both robust and svelte. It tastes of blackberry, kirsch, anise and dark leather and at every point along the flow of the palate it feels convincing."
94 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, May 2019, Drink: 2019 - 2028
2016 Vintage
"Pretty much every year, you can count on Kennedy. If only our politicians were so reliable…
Mixed berries, red liquorice, sage and spice. Medium-bodied, supple with silty tannin, a little toast and sage in with smooth red and black berries, clean line of acidity, and a long fresh finish. Spot on."
93 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, November 2018, Drink: 2018 - 2027

The Sons of Eden Kennedy is a classic blend of old vine Barossa Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties. Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, which the Barossa enjoys today. The Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is from an exceptionally low yielding 50+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. Originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.
All 3 varieties were hand harvested and fermented separately. To aid colour, tannin and flavour extraction most parcels were fermented warm, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius. The Grenache and Mourvedre parcels were macerated on skins for 10-20 days before being pressed straight to seasoned oak hogsheads and puncheons for maturation. These parcels were then barrel maturated for 16 months without racking on full press solids, then naturally clarified, blended and bottled. Winery Notes
