The Battle of Bosworth celebrates 25 years (1995 - 2020) of producing organic wines. he latest Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 vintage to hit our shelves has aromas of blackcurrant, cassis and herbal notes intertwined with delicate whiffs of char (from the oak barrels). On the palate blackcurrant and blackberry over powdery tannins, spice and tar. This wine has great length and structure where the fruit more than matches the fine tannin structure. Another terrific Bosworth Cabernet.

Winery & Vintage Info

Battle of Bosworth makes single vineyard, organically grown wines from the family vineyards of Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith. Battle of Bosworth is located in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine region in South Australia and was established in 2001.The wines take their name from the original Battle of Bosworth, fought on Bosworth Field, Leicestershire, England in 1485. Battle of Bosworth make wines with flavour, purity, texture and balance, that best express the unique characteristics of their McLaren Vale foothills site.

Joch’s commitment to organic principles in the vineyards began with an increasing sense of discomfort about using synthetic chemicals on his soils and wanted to use natural, old fashioned farming techniques.
This constant spirit of experimentation in the vineyard and winery, along with traditional vinification and natural minimal processing, combined with organic and sustainable viticulture allows them to capture the purity, integrity, texture and flavour of the vineyard in their wines.

With a Mediterranean-type climate characterised by warm summers and moderate winters and with their close proximity to the ocean, winter dominant rainfall and low relative humidity, McLaren Vale’s benign climate is ideal for organic viticulture. Winery Notes

Max Allen in his book, The Future Makers; Australian Wines for the 21st Century, describes Joch as one of the ‘most important organic winemakers in Australia’.
