Akashi White Oak Red Blended Japanese Whisky 500ml
Akashi whisky is the only whisky in the world that is made by a Toji (grand-master in the art of sake making) by implementing sake-making methodologies into the whisky making process. The distil pot used is smaller than those used by both Scottish and other Japanese distilleries, which in turn, decreases the levels of fusel alcohol. As a result, Akashi whisky does not require as long of an ageing process, while its core malt (cask strength) is smooth and delicate.
Akashi White Oak Red Blended Whisky is a blended whisky reserved in Japanese Shochu cask (American White Oak) for 2 years, aged in ex-bourbon casks before finishing in ex-sherry casks for 1 year. Distillery Notes
Located in the city of Akashi in Hyogo Prefecture, Eigashima has a long history of Sake and Shochu production which later included Blended whisky, yet it was only in 1984 when their White Oak distillery was established that they commenced single malt production. Blends make the bulk of their output to mixed reviews, with the Single Malt produced for only one month of the year. The later has has garnered serious interest and acclaim globally with highly revered releases such as the 14 year old and subsequent 15 year old, both at cask strength. With the increasing popularity of Japanese Whisky across the board, supplies of any expression from this distillery are hard to come by given the quantity they produce.
A limited release from the Eigashima distillery bottled under the name Akashi Red Blended Japanese Whisky. Eigashima Shuzo was founded in 1888 in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, and first acquired a whisky-making license in 1919.
