The 2017 vintage release of Passing Clouds 'The Angel' is deep crimson in colour. Intense aromatics, a broad spectrum of fruits with red black and blue all in there, crushed herbs add complexity along with gamey leathery notes. The palate shows a lovely weight, with beautiful fine, powdery tannins, framed by juicy fruit and soft acidity.

Reviews & Accolades
“100% cabernet sauvignon from the Serpentine Vineyard. 40% of the wine went through extended post-ferment maceration. No new oak. Texture like satin, inbuilt complexity, X-factor and more. Everything here is modest and reserved and yet it speaks so clearly of quality. It's just so pure, so seamless, so lengthy. Blackcurrant, plum, choc-mint and clove characters are the main conduits but the edges buzz with activity. It's a beautiful red wine.”

Winery & Vintage Info

Passing Clouds was the name co-founders Graeme Leith and Sue Mackinnon gave to their small family owned winery when in 1974 having tirelessly hand planted their central Victorian Bendigo vineyard, were hoping for rain. Rain clouds would come, threaten and pass, and on old gold diggings and a deserted creek bed, they planted Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

At Present, Graeme’s son Cameron is the winemaker since taking over in 2008 and is making wines that are true to the heritage and unique style of Passing Clouds whilst having a heavy focus on the vineyards to enhance terroir expression. In 2010 he completed his Masters in Wine Technology and Viticulture.

Passing Clouds still makes all of their acclaimed Bendigo reds, but now also has an emphasis on cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from their new home in the Macedon Ranges.

The Angel is a selection of our finest, most elegant Cabernet Sauvignon barrels each year. After 12 months in oak, the selection process begins and each barrel is carefully sampled to determine whether it has made the cut. When the barrels are selected they are aged for an additional four months, bottled in winter and then aged in bottle for a further 12 months prior to release. The resultant wine is a sophisticated and extremely age-worthy expression of a cooler climate Cabernet Sauvignon. Winery Notes
