The Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Shiraz 2017 vintage is a vivid, plum red with purple hue. With a highly fragrant and enticing nose, with aniseed spice and red and blue berries, perfumed with delicate florals.

The palate is bright and juicy, with lashings of red cherry, blackberry and blue fruits coupled with powdery, savoury tannins. Long persistent finishing with lingering spice and mouth-watering freshness. Will reward with cellaring to 2023.

Winery & Vintage Info

The Mount Langi Ghiran 2017 Cliff Edge Shiraz fruit is unashamedly rich, deep, bold and highly fragrant. Concentration and power gives way to a suite of seductive spices that are both intriguing and exciting, straddling the lines of musk and pepper. The distinct red and blue flowers of the Langi vineyard are ever-present, but are at one with the lush fruit, bringing great perfume to the party.

The structure is unique; the fine, powdery, slightly savoury structure juxtaposes the rich, sweet, spicy fruit creating a balance of boldness and elegance. The sheer generosity of this wine makes it ready to drink now, while the less-ripe tannins and firmness of structure suggests this wine has a long future to settle into as well.

The grapes are sourced from a selection of blocks across the historic Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard situated in the Grampians region of Victoria, where the combination of Langi’s cool climates, old vines and granite sands produce Shiraz with great intensity, purity and finesse.

Maturation completed using open fermenters, plunged, whole berry and whole bunch fermentation, including pigeage via foot-stomping. 100% French Oak, 25-30% New. Winery Notes

Reviews & Accolades

"An excellent year for Mount Langi was 2017. Adam Louder is now chief winemaker, since a month, and here he is in front of me pouring the wines of Mount Langi. Now chiselled into history. Quite a thing, No nonsense, good bloke, serious, clever, Mount Langi in good hands. Strong regional pepper character, dark plummy fruit scents, a touch of espresso/dark chocolate. Generous introduction to start the wine. Lithe and fresh to taste, medium weight, tightened with a corkscrew of silty tannins, brooding dark fruit flavours jostling with cola and peppery spice. Sinewy, formed and shapely, long, elegant, lip-smacking goodness. This is an outstanding release of this wine."
93 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

"Deep red/purple colour, with a bouquet of earth and spicy fruit and background pepper, with a undertone of toast and vanilla. The wine is medium-bodied and quite elegant, with less refinement and persistence than the Talus tasted beside it. A more chunky structure. A very good wine and remarkable value. "
91 Points - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
