Once again an exceptional wine at the price: vibrant, unmistakably Coonawarra to smell and taste, bursting with flavours of blackcurrant, mulberry and herbs, and fine, elegant and juicy in the mouth. The wine is quite low in oak, with just a smidge of vanillin showing faintly on the mid palate, but otherwise the brambly, blackcurrant flavours demand all the attention.Fine silky tannins integrate with the fruit and minimal oak treatment to produce an approachable well rounded wine with an extended length. Quite a complex wine!Drink now, but it should age beautifully for 3 - 5 years - Winemaker: Bruce Gregory

Winery & Vintage Info

The Musician blend since it’s first release in 2004, has won 7 trophies and 72 medals to date.

The Musician is made as a light and elegant dry red. Fermentation was in both stainless steel tanks and oak barrels then aged for a further six months for minimal oak contact. It was then blended and bottled as a young red to retain freshness.

Season 2014 in Coonawarra will be described as one of the longest on record starting mid February and finishing in the first week of May. The winter season was the second wettest in the last 28 years providing a very welcome recharge to the underground aquifer.

The warm weather brought the ripening of many varieties on rapidly. But the cool nights and moderate days that the Coonawarra region is famous for soon rolled in around mid to late February preserving the acid and flavour of the white varieties. The red varieties have benefitted significantly from the cool slow ripening period.

The flavours seen in the field have translated well to the progressing wines. Overall, a perfect extended dry and mild ripening season for flavour, colour and tannin development which will deliver a classic Coonawarra vintage.

REVIEWS & ACCOLADES

90 Points
"Pure fruit flavour. It lays it on. It’s delicious. Blackcurrant and redcurrant, a spray of dried herbs, a slip of saucy vanilla, a gentle run of dusty tannin. The fruit purity here is glorious. It’s hugely drinkable as a result. Fresh as a daisy too."
Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front JUL 2016

"This is 100% all about drinkability and pleasure - and vice versa. It is brimming with red, purple, blue and black fruits - it's all in the eye of the beholder, and the type isn't important, or as important as it would be with more expensive single varietal wines. A classic all on its own.”
James Halliday - Wine Companion OCT 2016
