The Luccarelli Puglia Negromaro 2017 comes from very red soil rich in iron oxides lying upon a layer of calcareous rock, located in the Salento region (province of Taranto and Brindisi).
The grapes are de-stemmed and macerated at controlled temperature for 8-10 days with regular pumping overs. Racking off and malolactic fermentation is in stainless steel tanks and is refined in used American and French oak barriques for 4-5 months.
A rich ruby red colour with purple reflections; intense, vinous, spicy and fruity, with notes of black berries (black currants and berries). Medium bodied, velvety with very good balance between freshness and a long lasting and savory aftertaste.
Best served with with pasta dishes, meat in general and medium aged cheeses.

Winery & Vintage Info

The philosophy of Luccarelli lies in the mastery of measuring the three main elements of the wine tradition in Salento: sun, sea, passion. They choose only the best fruit from a wonderful land blessed by the sun selecting the oldest Primitivo bushvines of Salento from the area of Manduria and Sava.
Negroamaro is one of many fascinating grapes unique to the deep south of Italy. And it's far more appealing than its name - meaning 'the black bitter one' - would suggest.
Negroamaro gives deeply coloured, richly flavoured wines, full of character. The finest examples have a dark, bitter chocolate quality (hence the name), but with abundant plum, prune and savory complexity to balance. Some of the best come from Salice Salentino and Squinzano, down in the 'heel' of Italy's boot. The grape is often blended with Malvesia Nera and Primitvo (southern Italy's other star reds), for a richer complexity and softness.
